Welcome to the Brothers of Charity Southern Services Website
What we do
Services to Persons with Intellectual Disability.
We provide a range of age-appropriate services to over 600 people - children (77%) and adults (23%) - with
intellectual disability in the Cork & Kerry Region. These services include day, residential,
multidisciplinary support services respite and family support services. We also provide an adult respite
facility to adults in the region. We aim to enable each service user to access the highest standard of
service based on their individual requirements.
We also provide a number of Regional Specialist Services
Regional Behavioural Support Service for Children and Adolescents presenting with Challenging Behaviour
Regional Service for Children and Adolescents presenting with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Regional Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Services
We all dream of providing the Service of Excellence. It is not easy – it takes a great deal of
consultation, planning, hard work and relationship building. We have the privilege of enabling service
participants in achieving their full potential, of providing a supporting role for families and of
promoting an inclusive community.
A Heritage of Expertise
We pride ourselves in employing staff (over 800 people) who contribute a wealth of knowledge and experience
to the Services. We operate a policy of employing qualified staff and of providing on-going professional
development training. Many of our staff have vast experience in working with persons of wide-ranging
diagnosis, of varying age-ranges and settings. This helps us to combine the best of individual talents
with the use of the most up to date best practice, in the context of proving value for money. The Services
not only offer service users the chance to mature and grow in a relaxed, friendly and healthy environment,
but offer a professional approach in our real work of enabling them to become champions in their local
community.
Building on success – Our Service Structure
As the Southern Services continue to grow and develop, every effort is made to ensure that the
infrastructure and facilities are in place to facilitate the development of localised and autonomous
services. Our services are organised into geographical sectors within the Southern Health Board Area
(see map for more detail). Within each sector, services are delivered in small
service centres that are grouped in Service Communities. We provide a multidisciplinary team-approach in
facilitating Service users in each area.
We operate close links with the other Regions of the Brothers of Charity Services in Ireland
(Clare, Galway, Limerick, Roscommon, and South East). Our principle funding authority is the Southern
Health Board, which contracts us to provide certain services under a Service Agreement.
