CHILD SAFEGUARDING POLICY STATEMENT OF THE CONGREGATION OF THE BROTHERS OF CHARITY IRELAND

As a constituent member of the Catholic Church in Ireland, and in compliance with Standard 6, we, the Congregation of the Brothers of Charity, recognise and uphold the dignity and rights of all children, are committed to ensuring their safety and well-being, and will work in partnership with parents/guardians to do this. We recognise each child as a gift from god, and we value and encourage the participation of children in all activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual and social development.
All Church personnel (including Clergy, religious, staff and volunteers) have a responsibility to safeguard children through promoting their welfare, health and development in a safe and caring environment that supports their best interests and prevents abuse. The Congregation and its Members in Ireland are no longer involved in the direct delivery of Services, however, the Congregation is the registered owner of the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland (BOCSI) and a member of the Congregation Chairs the Board. The BOCSI is fully compliant with Children First and have various policies and procedures and training in place to ensure the safeguarding of both children and vulnerable adults within the Services. The BOCSI has its own Safeguarding Statement and Designated Liaison Persons and Designated Officers in place at regional level as set out in Children First.
The Designated Liaison Person for the Congregation in Ireland is:
